Shilpa Gupta

Blame
Installation and Interactive performance, 2002 - 2005

Shilpa Gupta's Blame project started in 2002 when the Kargil War was being fought at the borders of India and Pakistan, and was reopened when over 3000 people lost their lives in the genocide which took place in the Indian state of Gujarat in 2003. The artist offers you little red Blame bottles in gallery shops, on streets and local trains. The bottles contain simulated Blood with 'To Use' instructions: “Separate in four equal parts (can be unequal too) and tell them apart from  race and religion.”
